Hello!
Continuing with our theme of Nature Foods, here’s how they lower cholesterol: It’s the soluble fiber.
Any food that is a plant (fruit, veggie, grain, bean, legume, nut, seed) contains indigestible fibers that are like a cleaning crew for your body. The insoluble fibers go through your blood vessels and attach to cholesterol, carrying it out with them when they leave the system. Soluble fiber is like an efficient janatorial crew for your blood vessels.
Incidentally, there is another kind of plant fiber–insoluble fiber. That’s roughage, the janatorial crew for your digestive system. So plant foods scrub out both systems very nicely.
Think of your next salad as “spring cleaning” for your vascular and digestive systems. Appetizing, eh?
Have a good week,
Jill
